About Us

The Town Council is made up of twelve town Councillors, with two part time officers supporting the Councillors in their duties and the resulting administration.

The Town Council holds public meetings at Cliff House, normally twice a month at Cliff House. These meetings are open to all, and disabled access is provided by the newly installed lift. Salcombe Town Council actively encourages people to attend its meetings, and at the beginning of meetings there is a open forum where interested parties can raise concerns about matters arising from our agendas, which are published on our website, and from the public notice boards situated outside the TIC in Market Street, the Spar Shop in Loring Road, and in the lobby to Cliff House.

Salcombe is a beautiful town set amongst fields with industries connected with the marine environment, tourism and services to residents e.g. fishing, boat building, house building and repairs. Salcombe is a popular boating resort with a very busy harbour situated at the mouth of a tidal estuary leading to Kingsbridge, Frogmore and South Pool. The town is hilly and surrounded by 17 miles of public footpaths and bridleways. The area is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a Coastal Preservation Area and there are areas of Special Scientific Interest.
With regards to Public Transport – the town is served by national bus services and a Park & Ride limited service in the summer.

Over 50% of houses and flats are used as holiday homes or 2nd homes. During the course of the year, with the number of visitors coming for the day, using the harbour and staying in the houses and flats, there can be an additional 22.000 people visiting Salcombe.

Salcombe Town Council is your sounding board, and is there to listen to the concerns of all residents about the future of Salcombe and the development of Salcombe as a sustainable and pleasant place for people to live in and to visit.
